You may be shaking your head at getting rid of the things in your home.

I get it. You spent years accumulating all of it. I did too, but I looked around one day and realized that we had too much stuff and most of it wasn’t even our style anymore.

You can keep on living with the stress of all your stuff or you can fix it.

Benefits of Simplifying Your Home

1. Simplifying your home means you are free to get rid of all of the things that no longer reflect your style.

We’ve all gotten swept up in the latest hot decor trend at one time or another. No need to hang your head in shame. If it doesn’t reflect who you are, doesn’t serve a purpose in your home and you don’t like it anymore, get rid of it!

2. Having less stuff to clean is a huge benefit to simplifying your home.

I spent so many years with a weekly cleaning routine that involved dusting or washing stuff. I worried that it all had to be done every week and that everything had to be perfect.

It took a huge chunk of my time and although I was proud and satisfied when our home was clean and sparkling with everything in it’s place, I was too tired when I was done to do anything else. I just wanted to plop down in my chair and not be bothered.

Does this sound familiar?

Once you simplify your home you have less stuff to clean. Less to dust, less to wash. It’s very liberating

3. Simplifying your home will mean less time managing all that stuff.

Managing all that stuff can be exhausting! Making sure everything has a place. That it is organized. Rearranging it for holidays and other social gatherings.

Is it really worth it? If you’re still on the fence, keep reading. I’ll give you the biggest benefit at the end.

4. When you simplify your home you have less stuff to store away from season to season.

I used to have 4 large totes of Christmas decorations. Over the last 5 years, I only used the decorations out of one of them. But year after year we dragged them out went through them and put them back in the garage.

Madness, I tell you, pure madness!

Last year I went through each one as I was decorating and managed to wittle it down to just one. You can’t imagine how liberating that was! My hubby was super happy too when it came time to put it away.

5. Simplifying your home will make things easier for your children when you’re gone.

You may think it’s too early to think about this, but my hubby and are empty nesters and we are in our 50’s. Our son is the personal representative of our wills and he was looking around one day last year and said, “Boy, I’ll have a lot of stuff to get rid of when you die.”

Of course we all laughed and said that hopefully that was still a long way away! But, it really opened my eyes to what other’s saw when they came into our home.

It may have all looked nice and everything had it’s place, but it was still a lot of stuff. Stuff that really didn’t mean anything in the grand scheme of our life.

And the simplifying began…

6. Less stuff means less stress.

It’s true! No more cleaning all of it. Less to manage. You don’t have to worry about keeping it all organized and wondering how on earth your going to store it.

Simplify your home and breathe a big sigh of relief.

As promised earlier, number 7 is the best benefit of them all….

7. Gain back your precious time by simplifying your home.

Think about all the time you spend cleaning, managing and organizing your stuff on a weekly basis.

When you’re an empty nester like we are, you shouldn’t have to spend as much time doing all these things because there are only two of you living in your home now.

What about changing decor for each season or getting ready for a holiday or family gathering.

It used to take me 2-3 days to get up all of our Christmas decor. Now I get it done in an afternoon.

How much time do you spend decorating for Christmas? Is it really worth it?

Imagine what you could do with the time gained by simplifying.

The benefits of simplifying your home are just to powerful to ignore. Less stuff to manage and clean. No more stressing over where to put it all. Making things easier for your children some day and gaining back precious time to do things you love to do.

  1. Such helpful tips. I’m the world’s worst for stacking stuff instead of moving it to another home. I’m really going to have you in mind as the Christmas decor comes out this year. Fingers crossed.
